Murder mystery parties are back in fashion! Whether it is a couples’ weekend away or a friendly get-together at home, murder mystery parties are a great way to spend an evening. We have costumes that span centuries and countries so we’re bound to have several options for your specific character. We will discuss a few costuming options based on your vision for the character as well as our knowledge of the time period. We can put together a complete outfit or even suggest key pieces that can be worn with your own clothes.
It is our pride and joy to costume plays and operas. It is our bread and butter so to speak. Seeing the characters come to life wearing our designs causes a great sense of satisfaction for us at the shop. That being said, yes, we do costume plays for theatres near and far. Would your theatre like to avail of our services? Fantastic! Just give us a call. We’ll have a chat and pull the show for your approval. The considerable size of our rental stock allows us to costume all kinds of plays and musicals. The King and I, Beauty and the Beast, The Wizard of Oz, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, A Christmas Carol, Annie Get Your Gun, and Peter Pan are just a few of the shows we have costumed in the past. Visit our Shows and Costume Plots page to see more!
Whether your theatre is new or established, we would love the opportunity to work with you and help make your season a wild success!
Need specialty make-up for an upcoming production? Perhaps for a Halloween party? Or maybe you’re a make-up artist and need to replace some of your go-to products. Whatever your needs are, we have them covered! We carry foundations, luxury powders, stage blood, appliances (i.e. scars, bolts, noses, ears, etc.), beards, bald caps and more! Want to make your own appliances? No problem! Our experienced staff can give you tips and show you what products you’ll need to create that perfect zombie, werewolf, or old age look!
We receive new shipments of Ben Nye products every three days. If by some chance we don’t have what you need in stock we can easily place a custom order. In addition to Ben Nye’s range of foundations, special effects make-up kits, pencils, powders and more, we also carry Mehron and Krylon!
Wigs can instantly transform a person not only from a brunette to a blonde but also from a young person to an old person. We have colonial, biblical, pirate, hippie, clown, and modern wigs in abundance! There are so many options in a sale stock alone: brightly colored or naturally colored, long or short, with or without bangs, curly or straight or wavy, spiky or flat and smooth. We also have specific characters like Alice and Snow White as well as real people such as Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, and Twiggy.
So you already have a costume, or at least something passable from your closet. That’s great! Don’t forget to jazz it up with accessories so it really transforms from a plain cocktail dress to a dynamite flapper. We have all sorts of accessories including but not limited to gloves (long, short, colored, lace, satin, adult, children), glasses (funky, nerdy, 1950s-1980s, sci-fi), boas (every color of the rainbow), necklaces (hippie, pimp), bracelets (1960s mod), rings, headbands (flapper, hippie), hats (goofy, pirate, patriotic, top hats, fedoras), scarves, shoe buckles, neck-wear, suspenders, weapons (tommy guns, pistols, swords, nun chucks), fake cigarettes, shoes (go-go boots, platforms, character shoes, saddle oxfords). We could honestly go on and on and on AND on about the accessories we keep in stock. The best thing to do is visit us at the shop. One of our associates can help you find what you are looking for no problem!
We know kids don’t always share such pertinent information in a timely manner. It’s okay. Take a breath and don’t worry because we carry plenty of children’s historical figures! We have your costume solutions from Christopher Columbus to the founding fathers to Amelia Earhart. Children’s historical costumes vary from basic to deluxe versions. We even have instant disguise kits if you need those last few finishing touches to a costume you already have.
It seems like kids are required to dress up more and more often for school projects, wax museums, and book reports. No matter if it’s an animal or person we can usually sort something out (even last minute!).
There’s a lot coming up in the near future–from RetroFest to the start of Opera season.
On a related note, those of you getting ready for RetroFest should definitely check out our shop! Our store contains sale costume and accessories as well as a fantastic selection of vintage and vintage-styled rental outfits. We carry everything from bell-bottoms and polyester pants to daishikis, pimp suits, leisure suits, and some great one-of-a-kind dresses. That’s right, our rentals are all unique–you won’t see someone at a party with the same outfit as you.
Aside from that, we’ve also got a huge selection of Retro/hippie sunglasses and shades–big, small, blue, clear, green, gold, sparkle; all sorts–and several different wigs that are just perfect for hippie costumes. We’ve got afros, long hippie wigs, bobs, and gogo-dancer wigs. We even carry men’s platform shoes and women’s go-go boots. Come by the store and try some on!
That’s right, in case you didn’t know, we’re open year-round. We’re always here (with the exception of Sundays and various holidays), so whenever you need that Teddy Roosevelt costume for your kid’s presentation, or that cute flapper for a Twenties-themed party, we’ve got them. Keep in mind our huge selection of period costumes as well–we’ve got the perfect outfits for any sort of Dickens play, as well as Christmas carolers. Not just the outfits, mind you, but also the top hats, fingerless gloves, muffs, and ear-warmers. In fact, we’ve got the perfect selection for some glorious steampunk outfits as well…
…Anyway, feel free to come by and try some things on, whether you want to be a Victorian gentleman or a mad scientist! Thanks again for reading!
We hope no one–since we put some up and all. Check out our Photos page if you’d like to see some; so far, we’ve got “La Boheme” as presented by Converse College, as well as “Pirates of Penzance” as presented by Furman University. Both of these schools have fantastic opera programs–if you want more information, be sure to stop by their sites: this is the Furman Department of Music’s page, and here’s Converse Opera Theatre’s site.
Both of the shows were fantastic; we definitely recommend catching any of their shows if you get the chance.
Anyway, we’ll be uploading more photos soon, as we find time to do so.
